For what are we to pray?
1). For one another. "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another" (James 5:16)
2). Our daily bread. "Give us this day our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11). "Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed" (Psalm 37:3).
3). Forgiveness of sin. "I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin for this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found" (Psalm 32:5, 6; see also 1 John 1:9).
4). The HOLY SPIRIT. "Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field" (Zechariah 10:1).
5). For wisdom. " If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask GOD, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him" (James 1:5).
6). For those in authority over us. "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty" (1 Timothy 2:1,2).
7). For the sick. "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the Church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the LORD: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the LORD shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him" (James 5: 14,15).
8). For victory over temptation. "And lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil" (Matthew 6:13). "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but GOD is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
9). Our enemies. " Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you"(Matthew 5:44).
